When is the MAC museum open?

The main Museum exhibit spaces and the Museum Store are open: Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. In 2020, the Museum and Store will be open on the third Thursdays of the month until 8:00 pm. The MAC Cafe is open Tuesday through Sunday 10 am–4 pm. 

How do I get there?

Is there parking? Or bike racks?

The Museum has a three-level parking garage that is always free. There is free street parking as well. And yes, there are bike racks by the entry of the museum, and between the Cheney Cowles Center and Campbell House.

Is there a time when admission is reduced?

For Thursday Night Live on third Thursday evenings, admission is just $5 - half off the regular cost. During Pompeii: The Immortal City (February 8-May 3, 2020), admission will be $14 - almost 30% off the regular cost.

We offer $1 off regular admission for active and retired military, and AAA members. We also participate in the Blue Star Museums program, where active duty military members and their families get in for free between Memorial Day and Labor Day. 

Bank of America, Merrill or Bank of America Private Bank (US Trust) cardholders get one free admission on the first full weekend of every month through Bank of America's Museum's on Us® program.

Museum Members never pay admission to regular exhibits.

Does the MAC accept credit cards? 

Our Admissions desk and Museum Store accept major credit and debit cards, as well as cash and check as forms of payment. 

Can I reserve a visit at the MAC with a group?

We welcome group visits to the museum!  Learn more about reserving a group visit or a school group visit.

May I take a drink with me?

No food or drinks are allowed in the galleries or the historic Campbell House. To maintain a safe environment for all our guests, we also require that the following personal items be left in your vehicle or our storage lockers near the Cafe.: backpacks, large handbags, packages, umbrellas, tripods etc. (They require a 25 cent refundable deposit (quarters only.)) If you are unsure if an item is allowed, ask the Visitor Services staff upon arrival. 

What are the Archives hours and do I need an appointment?

The Archives is available by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, please contact the archivist at, or (509) 363-5313.

How much does it cost to tour Campbell House?

A tour of Campbell House is included in your regular admission and is not available on a stand-alone basis. You must inquire with our Visitor Services staff upon arrival to make arrangements to see Campbell House. 

Does the Museum offer rental space for private events?

A variety of event spaces, including the Gilkey Community Room; the E.A. Johnston Auditorium and adjacent Helen South Alexander Gallery; the Amphitheater; and the Admissions Gallery, offer options for your event. Learn more about the MAC's event space rentals.

Does the Museum provide appraisals?

The Museum does NOT provide appraisals, but you can find resources to research your art from the Smithsonian American Art Museum

Tips for Visiting

When is the best time to visit?

  • Regular hours are Tuesday – Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm
  • Historic Campbell House is open for guided tours Tuesday through Friday at 12 pm, 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm. For available tour times, please inquire with our Visitor Services staff upon arrival.
    Open House format is available 12 pm to 4 pm Saturday and Sunday. 
    A tour of Campbell House is included with your regular admission price (no charge to Museum members). Tour capacity is 16 visitors. Please check-in at Admissions to schedule your tour.

  • For your information, during the school year large groups of school children often visit the museum Tuesday – Friday, 10 am to 2 pm.
  • The Museum is closed on most major holidays. You can view the current year schedule on our Visit the MAC page.

Approximately how long does it take to go through the MAC?

Duration of visits will vary based on individual interests and whether you visit Campbell House, the MAC Store, and MAC Cafe. We have five exhibit galleries and the Campbell House Activity Center (Carriage House). Campbell House tours are approximately 50 minutes long.

Are there any personal items that are prohibited in the galleries?

May I take pictures in the MAC?

Personal use photos and videography is authorized throughout the Museum complex, unless otherwise posted. Restricted areas will have placards posted to inform our guests of photography restrictions. The use of tripods or commercial photography must be pre-approved.
