Goals and Objectives:

  • Understand why and how museums preserve art and artifacts
  • Explore different factors that might influence preservation (Human or Nature)
  • Learn about Egyptian Papyrus and how it compares to other materials that decay

Program Description:

Students will explore the mysteries of museum collection and preservation as they get a behind the scenes look at a working collection lab. Students will investigate how materials decay and what factors affect preservation, by examining Papyrus, an Ancient Egyptian paper.

Paleontology Lab

  • Understand why and how museums preserve art and artifacts.
  • Explore different factors that might influence preservation.
  • Understand the work of paleontologists and museum curators.

Program Description:

Students become paleontologists and museum curators. They will examine fossils and develop a mock museum exhibit. Students will engage in the creative process of curating an exhibit through hands-on learning. Working in teams, students will create, develop, and support ideas through collaborative conversations.
