Boy Scout Troop Visits to Norman Rockwell's America

Norman Rockwell and the Boy Scouts were nearly synonymous for years. Many referred to Rockwell as Scouting's "best friend." One of Rockwell's first jobs was illustrating Boys' Life magazine and books. When he moved to The Saturday Evening Post, he continued to periodically feature scouts on its covers and for 52 years he created a painting for the annual Boy Scout calendar at no charge. Some of Scouting's most moving and memorable pictures were created by Norman Rockwell and he was acknowledged for his service to the organization with a Silver Buffalo Award.

In conjunction with the exhibition Norman Rockwell's America, the MAC has developed special programs for Boy Scout troops including a Boy Scout memorabilia display, a gallery guide and scavenger hunt, and activities supporting badges in art, history, culture and more.

Contact the Education Department at to learn more about Scout program opportunities, prices and to register in advance for your visit.
