In celebration of WestCoast Entertainment’s 30th Anniversary Season, costumes from some of the most popular touring Broadway musicals are on display now through the week of February 19th at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture.

The exhibit includes costumes from national tours including The Phantom of the Opera, Annie, Wizard of Oz, Kinky Boots, CATS, Disney’s The Lion King and Annie. 

All costumes have been utilized in either recent or current tours. 

 

 

The national tour of CATS opened the Best of Broadway series in 1987, and the display will include costumes of three of the most famous “cats”. Gumbie, Gus and Grizabella will all be on display. 

Phantom of the Opera display includes three original designs by Maria Björnson. The famous “Phantom’s Suit” will be on display, as well as Christaine Daae’ s “Don Juan Triumphant” dress, Carlotta Guidicelli’s “The Managers Office” attire, and the Footman’s “Masquerade” attire.

Julie Taymor won numerous awards for her mask creations in Disney’s Lion King include the Tony Award for Best Costume Design.  Five of her creations will be on display including the masks of Mufasa, Nala, Scar, Simba and the Zazu puppet. 

The display will also include an assortment of costumes from the tours of Annie, Kinky Boots and the iconic Dorthy costume with ruby shoes from the Wizard of Oz.
