Sole Source & Emergency Purchases

Eastern Washington State Historical Society
(dba Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture)
SOLE SOURCE POSTING

May 12, 2022

The Eastern Washington State Historical Society (EWSHS), contemplates awarding a sole source contract to Marquand Books, Inc., dba Lucia | Marquand to provide development and production services for an exhibition catalogue.

EWSHS requires the services of a firm that can develop, design, edit, print, and distribute (or connected EWSHS with distributors for) the catalogue for an upcoming exhibition featuring its collection of Mexican masks. As a small agency with no dedicated publications department and without a recent history of publishing, EWSHS seeks a firm that will handle all elements of producing its exhibition catalogue, except for finding and managing contributing authors. Therefore, demonstrated experience developing, publishing, and distributing scholarly, museum-quality exhibition catalogues is critical. It is especially important that the selected firm have experience producing books with high-quality, color-accurate image reproductions and editing scholarly art history manuscripts. To date, Lucia | Marquand has produced catalogues with over 100 museums both large and small, notably the Art Institute of Chicago, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. It is the only firm EWSHS has found that specifically focuses on museum publications. With in-house editors, designers, image managers, and production managers, Lucia | Marquand is ideally equipped to efficiently manage all elements of catalogue production for EWSHS. Lucia | Marquand has confirmed that it can provide these services and deliver the complete catalogue by the exhibition’s opening date of September 3, 2022.

EWSHS will enter into a ONE (1) YEAR contract with Lucia | Marquand. The contract will be issued on or after May 26, 2022 and will continue for a one year initial term. The cost of this ONE year contract is up to $70,000.

Offerors contemplating the above requirements are required to   submit capability statements detailing their ability to meet the state’s requirements within five (5) working days of this announcement.

Capability statements should address the following requirements:

  • Experience in developing, publishing, and distributing scholarly, museum-quality exhibition catalogues;
  • Knowledge of and experience with the market for art exhibition catalogues;
  • Ability to provide editing, graphic design, indexing, pre-press, print quality oversight, and printing services management all in-house;
  • Experience and ability to produce publications with high-quality, color-accurate image reproductions;
  • Experience editing scholarly art history manuscripts; and
  • The ability to complete all services and deliver printed catalogues to the Eastern Washington State Historical Society by no later than September 3, 2022.

In the absence of other qualified sources, it is the state’s intent to make a sole source award of the contract. To submit capability statements or for questions, contact:
