Donating to the Research Library and Archives

The objectives of the Eastern Washington State Historical Society's research library and archives are:

  1. To acquire, process, preserve, and make available those primary sources and supporting secondary sources which contribute to the understanding of the history of Eastern Washington and the Inland Northwest; and
  2. Acquire, process, preserve, and make available secondary sources which facilitate the needs of the Society staff and general public in carrying out the objectives of the Society and its program.

For a millennium, written records have provided the most important clues to the past. Through letters, diaries, and documents of many types, and also through the audible and visual records of recent times, researchers have been able to study and understand much about the roots of particular families, communities, organizations, societies, and events in particular, and of our civilization and heritage of our nation in general.

In the United States, historical societies, college university, and public libraries and other institutions carefully preserve collections of written, visual, and audible records created by private citizens and groups, both past and present, to ensure that these records will be available for research use. The archivists staffing these institutions welcome telephone calls or letters and will be glad to visit with prospective donors to advise about the preservation of records.

Interested donors please call the Curator of Special Collections at (509)363-5313 or email rosek@northwestmuseum.org.
